Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
